University Strategy:
The mission of MSTU “STANKIN” is to develop the scientific, technical and personnel potential of the mechanical engineering industry to increase the global competitiveness of domestic mechanical engineering production in the context of the formation of a new digital industry.

Positioning of MSTU “STANKIN”:
A consolidating center for personnel-competence and scientific-technological development of production systems of the mechanical engineering industry based on the revival of machine tool manufacturing.
Founding (1930): The Moscow Machine Tool Institute was established on July 12, 1930 by order No. 1647 of the Presidium of the Supreme Council of the National Economy of the USSR to train specialists for the machine tool industry—the backbone of domestic mechanical engineering. The founder was Ya. F. Kagan‑Shabshai.
First graduates (1932): The institute’s first cohort graduated in 1932, producing 29 engineers.
Pre‑war growth (1933–1941): By 1941, the institute had trained 824 engineers. Early graduates included notable industry leaders:
- A. I. Efremov, who became People’s Commissar (Minister) of Machine Tool Construction (1941, 1942–1949) and later Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the USSR (from 1949).
- A. I. Kostousov, Minister of Machine Tool Construction of the USSR (1949–1953).
Recognition: Within its first five years, the institute proved itself as a higher education institution meeting the country’s industrial needs.
Later evolution (post‑WWII to present): The institute broadened its academic and research activities over subsequent decades and was transformed into Moscow State Technological University “STANKIN,” continuing its focus on machine tool engineering and related fields while expanding training and research for modern industry.
