Today MIET is an advanced university of Russia, training professionals in microelectronics, nanotechnology in electronics, information and telecommunication technologies, fundamental sciences as well as in economics, graphic design and linguistics.
The university is situated in Zelenograd, the center of Russian microelectronics and a quiet Moscow district.
For more than 55 years the university has been training highly-qualified professionals in the most popular fields of electronics and IT. Among the tutors and employees of MIET are members of the Russian Academy of Sciences, more than 100 Doctors of Sciences and more than 300 PhDs.
The university is proud of its graduates successfully working in well-known hi-tech companies in Russia and around the world. MIET cooperates with leading universities of Europe and the USA, takes part in exchange programs for students, postgraduates and tutors. The university implements programs of elite professional training together with a number of foreign leaders in electronics and information technologies: Microsoft, Intel, Cisco systems, Hewlett-Packard, Cadence, Synopsys, Mentor Graphics, Parametric Technology Corporation, Freescale Semiconductor, Agilent Technologies, Sun Microsystems and others.
Today over 350 foreign students study at MIET. Besides training full-time and part-time students using the newest equipment and software, MIET was one of the first universities of Russia to provide distance education for students in Russia and abroad via the Internet using unique curriculum developed at the university.
Every year a large amount of research is carried out at MIET not only by faculty members and research assistants, but also by postgraduates and students.
For more than 25 years MIET has been participating in innovative activities. One of the six free economic zones created in Russia for hi-tech companies is situated in Zelenograd. It includes the Innovation Complex of MIET.
MIET proved its status of a leading university in Russia by being listed in 2006 as one of the first 17 winners of national priority project «Education» leaving behind 200 competitors. MIET is among the universities promoting best innovative educational programs and received substantial federal funding for further development of elite professional training system.
Since 2010 MIET has a high status of National Research University as a recognition of its achievements in the fields of education, research and innovations. The University receives a significant long-term financial support for the development of educational and research activities.
In 2020 MIET was assigned to the 1st category among educational institutions of higher education that perform research, development and technological work.
Education System
In accordance with the Bologna process srtarting from September, 1, 2009 Russian institutes of higher education adopted the two-degree system of education.
The system 4+2 ensures Russian University Diplomas to be recognized by European institutions of higher education and vice a versa. It expands employment opportunities and possibilities of further education abroad for graduates.
MIET admits more than 1000 students to Bachelor’s degree and more than 300 students to Master’s degree programs annually.
After getting Master or Specialist degree a student can enter post-graduatestudies.
Students enter a particular Department for a particular Degree. A Department at MIET is a large formation (Institute of Chair) which consists of chairs, laboratories, educational centers, belonging to the same field of science or arts. Students follow a predetermined curriculum, although in some Departments there exists a list of optional subjects.
Getting a degree at MIET implies completing the curriculum, passing examinations and defending a graduation work (thesis, dissertation) according to the chosen field of study.
The University continues to diversify and improve its education programs. Students are encouraged to take part in research projects and science conferences. Advanced teaching technologies are being introduced to the education process, such as specialized software, interactive multimedia tools, distance learning.

Foreign Affairs
More than 300 foreign students from 30 different countries study at MIET. A great number of them are citizens of The Union of Myanmar studying at MIET under the agreement signed by heads of both states. MIET traditionally enrolls many students from the former Soviet Republics: Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Estonia and others.
MIET cooperates with advanced universities of Europe, Asia and the USA, takes part in exchange programs for students, post-graduates and tutors.
Programs of elite professional training are implemented at MIET in collaboration with the world leading companies in the field of electronic technologies.
One of the most promising international centers at MIET is Device and System Design Institute MIET-Cadence opened in 2002. It trains highly qualified professionals competent in analog and mixed signal microsystem design as well as System-on-Chip. Cadence Design Systems provided 20 Sun workstations, a server and a full version of its newest software for complete cycle ULSI design with 0.13 micron process. October 2006 saw the launch of a new educational program at MIET in collaboration with Synopsys, a world leader in CAD systems and developing software instruments for IC design. Synopsys supports MIET financially in setting up and conducting the courses, supplies dozens millions dollars worth of software licenses, puts up money for hardware for the center, and provides technical support and tutor training for the university.ation with a number of foreign leaders in hi-tech: Microsoft, cisco Systems, Cadence, Synopsys, Freescale Semiconductor, Mentor Graphics, PTC Software and Services and others.
Under the agreement between MIET and Mentor Graphics the center for training professionals in CAD was opened in 2005. It provides Specialist and Master’s degrees in CAD. Mentor Graphics took up a part of the expenses connected with the teaching process. In addition to providing its own CAD tools, the company supplied MIET with 12 workstations, a server, additional backup system, and a package of networking hardware for local computing network.
