Study at The Moscow Automobile and Road Construction Institute (MADI) 2025

The Moscow Automobile and Road Construction State Technical University (MADI) is a leading higher education institution in Russia, specializing in transportation engineering, road construction, automotive studies, and related fields. Established in 1930 from the Highway Department of the Moscow Institute of Transport Engineers, MADI has evolved into a major center for education, science, and culture.

Academic Structure and Programs

MADI offers a multi‑tiered system of higher education that meets Federal State Educational Standards (FSES). The university provides programs at the following levels:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Specialist Degree
  • Master’s Degree
  • Postgraduate Studies (PhD, Doctoral)

Training combines general cultural development with professional competence in engineering, management, economics, and the humanities.

Core Objectives

  • Intellectual, cultural, and moral development for students
  • Meeting Russia’s socio‑economic need for qualified transport engineers and specialists
  • Conducting fundamental and applied research in close connection with education
  • Preparing highly qualified academic and scientific personnel
  • Pre‑university training via the Moscow Center for Automobile and Highway Education (MCAHO)
  • Continuous professional development and retraining for the national transport sector
  • Dissemination of technical, economic, legal, and environmental knowledge
  • Compliance with state information protection regulations

BAHA MADI

The Baja MADI  project is focused on creating a capable, dynamic, and reliable off-road vehicle. The team designs, calculates, and builds its vehicle using the same 10 hp B&S engine for all competitors, with no ability to adjust its settings. The primary focus is on the chassis, frame, and drivetrain design.

The MADI Engineering Education Center organized the all-Russian off-road vehicle competition “BAHA Russia 2019” in 2019. MADI’s Baja is actively showcased at all-Russian exhibitions, scientific conferences, and forums.

MADI supports the development of the Bach movement in the country.

The team is currently developing an all-wheel drive car, which is a first for the Russian BAHA community, and also plans to release an electric prototype.

MADI STUDENT FORMULA

The Formula Student MADI project is the pioneer of the largest international student engineering competition series in Russia, Formula Student. The project was founded in 2005.

In 2006, the MADI team made its debut at a competition in Germany, where it successfully passed all tests with its first car.

Innovations in car construction, the use of new technologies and unexpected engineering solutions. For the first time in Russia, the project’s participants used composite materials in the load-bearing system. The project’s work is showcased at various scientific conferences and exhibitions dedicated to education and science, the development of motorsports, and the promotion of engineering projects among young people. Project participants have won various grants, including a grant from the Infiniti Performance Engineering Academy. Over the course of its 14 years, the project has designed and built seven racing cars.

Since its founding, the team has taken part in stages in Germany, Austria, Hungary, Italy, the USA, and Russia, representing not only MADI but also Russia.

FORMULA ELECTRIC

The Formula Electric project is the most challenging class of student engineering competitions, held at MADI since 2011. The MADI team is the only Russian representative among 133 teams in the world ranking.

MADI students design and assemble a racing electric car, conduct a feasibility study, and defend the design before an international jury.

The team’s history began on August 1, 2007, with the creation of innovative hybrid-powered racing cars. The team successfully competed in international competitions in the United States and Europe, and also won numerous national competitions.

In 2013, the first electric car was manufactured, and three years later, a completely new electric car, the Phoenix, took first place in the Energy Efficiency category in Hungary.

In 2019, the Formula Student and Formula Electric teams merged to form the Formula MADI team, which is pursuing the ambitious goal of building a driverless car. In 2022, the team has registered for the FORMULA STUDENT EAST competition, where it will compete with a new car in the electric prototype class.

MADIMOTO ELECTRIC

The project’s concept is to build an innovative motorcycle of the future. After creating the electric motorcycle, the MADIMOTO electric team competed in the international SMARTMOTO CHALLENGE competition, showcasing all of its solutions and achievements. SMARTMOTO CHALLENGE is a lightweight electric motorcycle championship for students of technical universities. The result of this work is a functional L1E or L3E motorcycle that meets European standards.
The team has won multiple prizes in Russian and international competitions.
